The Illinois annual state budget process determines: 

  • monthly payments to foster families for each child’s food, clothes, housing, and allowance (board check rates); 
  • funding to DCFS-sponsored support programs for children in foster care and families; and Examples: Summer camps for children and training classes for caregivers 
  • funding for programs available to children in foster care and their families through other state agencies. Example: Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutritional program through the Department of Human Services
