There are three ways developmental delays may be detected:
- the child’s medical and/or educational history may show a need for preschool or other services;
- the HealthWorks physician may refer the child for further developmental screening; and
- caregivers take a preschooler for a developmental screening after sensing or observing possible delays in development, after the initial placement in DCFS care.
